Web design in Wigan.
Wholesale, trade accounts and the WN postcodes.

The Wigan end of our work skews wholesale: bakery and food production selling to other businesses rather than to the public. That is a different build from a shop, and the difference is not cosmetic — a trade customer wants their own prices, their own order history, an invoice that reconciles and an account manager who is a page rather than a phone call.

What a trade portal needs that a shop does not

Every one of these is a reason a consumer ecommerce platform cannot do wholesale properly without being fought.

A price per customer, not a price per product

Trade pricing is negotiated per account and it changes. The price a customer sees has to come from their account, which most shop platforms treat as an afterthought or an add-on.

Pro forma above a limit

Card up to a ceiling, pro forma invoice above it, and payment terms for the accounts that have earned them. That rule is the whole difference between a shop and a trade counter.

Reorder, in one tap

A wholesale customer orders roughly the same thing every week. The single most-used button in a trade portal is "same as last time", and it is the easiest one to leave out.

Invoices that the accountant accepts

Sequential numbering, VAT stated properly, and a statement per account. If the paperwork is wrong the portal gets abandoned no matter how good it looks.

Production and dispatch, which is where it gets real

  • A cut-off that the kitchen sets Orders for Thursday close on Tuesday at four. Build the cut-off and the production list falls out of the orders automatically.
  • A picking list, not an order list Production needs the total of every line across all orders. Dispatch needs it split back per customer. Those are two screens and both have to be printable.
  • Pack sizes and cases Sold by the tray, the dozen and the case, with one stock count underneath. Get this wrong and nothing reconciles.

When we are the wrong firm for this

If you have fewer than about ten trade customers and they all ring you, a portal will not save you time yet — it will add a system nobody logs into while the phone keeps ringing. Spend the money on the production side instead, or on nothing at all. The portal starts paying when the orders arrive faster than one person can type them.

We would rather build you the picking list this year and the portal next year than the other way round.

Questions

Before you ask.

Can trade customers have their own prices?

Yes, and that is the central feature rather than an add-on. Price bands per account, with the band attached to the login, so a trade customer never sees retail pricing and never has to ask.

Can the orders produce a production list?

Yes. Once there is a cut-off, the totals per line across every order are a report, and so is the split back out per customer for dispatch. Both printable, because the bakery floor does not use a laptop.

Do you cover Wigan and Leigh?

Yes, both, and we have a separate page for Leigh. Either way we come out for commissioning and launch rather than doing hardware over the phone.

Ready to get started?

Tell us what you need. We will scope it, price it and build it.
