If a task happens more than once,
it should not require a human.

Look for the work that is repetitive, follows a rule, and happens often enough that somebody sighs when it comes round. We start by watching what your team actually does for a week rather than asking what they think they do, because the answers differ more than people expect.

In our experience it moves them onto the part of the job that needed a person. The work we remove is copying between systems, re-typing, chasing and checking, which nobody was hired to do and nobody defends once it is gone. If a role genuinely only consists of that work, you should know before you commission anything, and we will tell you.

It gets checked. Anywhere a mistake would be expensive we keep a person in the loop, so the system does the work and a human approves the outcome. Everything is logged, so when something does go wrong you can see exactly what happened rather than guessing.

Usually not. Most automation is about making the tools you already pay for talk to each other. Replacing something only comes up when it has no way to be integrated at all, and that is a separate conversation.
