Web design for Liverpool.
An hour away, and mostly hospitality.

Liverpool is the nearest city on this list that is not ours — about an hour — and the work that comes from it is overwhelmingly hospitality: restaurants, bars, dessert places, independent retail with a strong local following. The defining feature of that trade is that demand arrives in spikes nobody schedules, and most systems are built as though it arrives evenly.

Building for a trade that peaks

A match, a concert, a bank holiday, a sunny Saturday. Four things that have to hold up when the week’s volume arrives in three hours.

A queue, not a crash

Order volume at peak is the only real load test a hospitality system gets. Rendering on the server and keeping the payment step simple matters more than any amount of design.

A kitchen capacity limit

The system must be able to stop promising twenty-minute collection when there are forty tickets on the screen. An automatic quoted time that moves with the queue is the single most valuable feature for a busy kitchen.

Pre-order for the known spike

If a fixture or a festival is in the calendar, orders should open in advance with a timed collection slot. That converts a chaotic hour into a planned one.

Timed slots instead of a waiting list

For venues and dessert shops at peak, allocating collection times is both better service and lower staffing than a crowd at the counter.

Loyalty that suits a city with regulars

  • Wallet, not an app A pass in Apple Wallet with push updates. Nobody installs an app for a dessert shop; everybody has Wallet already.
  • Earned at the counter and online One scheme, both channels, one customer record. Two schemes is worse than none.
  • Something to say, occasionally A pass can push a message to the lock screen. Used twice a month it is powerful; used weekly it gets deleted.

When we are the wrong firm for this

For a single bar or restaurant that just needs to be findable and bookable, the right spend is a Google Business Profile done properly and a booking widget, and that is not a project. Liverpool also has good independent studios who will sit in the room with you, which is a real advantage for anything design-led. We are worth the hour when the build is operational: ordering, kitchen flow, tills, loyalty, stock.

If you are not sure which of those you need, we will tell you on the phone for free and we will not pad the answer.

Questions

Before you ask.

Will the system cope with a match-day rush?

That is what we design for: the page rendered on the server so it is fast under load, a payment step with as few moving parts as possible, and a quoted collection time that moves automatically with the kitchen queue instead of promising twenty minutes to everyone.

Can customers pre-order for a specific time?

Yes, and for a known spike — a fixture, a festival, a bank holiday — it is the highest-value feature we can give a Liverpool kitchen. Orders open in advance with timed collection slots.

Do we need an app for loyalty?

No. An Apple Wallet pass does stamps and points, updates by push with no app update, and works at the counter via a QR scan. We build those far more often than loyalty apps.
