Grillsters
An ordering platform of their own, printing straight to the counter
A flame-grill takeaway taking orders by phone and through third-party apps, with no platform of their own. We built one: their brand throughout, an ordering flow designed to be finished on a phone in under a minute, wired to the counter thermal printer so tickets print the moment an order lands, and live control of the menu, the opening hours and the pause button.
Start a projectWhere they were
A flame-grill takeaway in Bolton taking orders over the phone and through the delivery apps, with no platform of their own. Every order through an app carried a commission, including the regulars who already knew the menu, and every phone order took a member of staff away from the counter.
What we built
An ordering site under their own name
Their brand throughout, on their own domain, with the full menu modelled properly — sizes, options and deals rather than a flat list. The flow is designed to be finished on a phone in under a minute, because that is the only version that competes with an app people already have installed.
Tickets printing at the counter
The order prints on the counter thermal printer the moment it lands, with the queue readable on screen as the backup when paper runs out. Nobody re-keys an order, which is where mistakes come from on a busy Friday.
Live control of the shop
The menu, the prices, the opening hours and a pause button are theirs to change, without ringing us. A slammed kitchen can extend the quoted wait or stop delivery in one tap.
A kitchen view and an owner view
Separate screens for the people cooking and the people running it, so the kitchen sees the queue and the owner sees the day.
How it works now
The site is live at grillsters.online and anyone can open it and place an order, which is the only test of a takeaway platform that counts. The apps are still there for discovery; the regulars have somewhere else to go.
We host it, we keep it patched, and the printer token sits behind authentication rather than in a URL — a detail nobody notices until somebody else is printing your tickets.
What we would say to a takeaway considering the same thing
The build is the easy half
The hard half is telling your regulars it exists: inserts in every app bag, the URL on the signage and the receipts, and an offer that only exists on your own site.
Model the menu before anything else
The longest conversation in the project is the menu, and it is the one that decides whether the system is pleasant to use for the next three years.
Keep the apps
They are good at reaching people who have never heard of you. They are an expensive way to serve the people who have.
